DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify, evaluate, and optimize cathode/anode composites to meet R&D objectives
- Build cells and conduct cell testing, with a focus on rigor, repeatability, and statistical analyses in an industrial setting
- Effectively communicate procedures, results, and uncertainties, in written documents and in-person meetings
- Source, characterize, and evaluate materials from various suppliers
- Work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product life cycle, and work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, and Production to take battery product designs and changes from initial concept through prototype development and into full production
- Contribute to technical writing of grants, patents, and reports
- Perform other functions as required supporting R&D and production
QUALIFICATIONS
- PHD in chemistry, or material science, or engineering or related field with 2+ years of experience in lithium-ion RD and/or manufacturing
- M.S. with 5+ years of experience in lithium-ion RD and/or manufacturing
- B. S with 10+ years of experience in lithium-ion RD and/or manufacturing
- Project management experience a plus
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task across several teams and projects
- Maintain rigorous and absolute adherence to safety protocols and role modeling same for all colleagues and customers
- Ability to function autonomously to meet objectives
- US citizen or a green card holder
- Able to travel when necessary to fulfill objectives

American Lithium Energy in the greater San Diego area is looking for a highly motivated battery scientist/engineer to support the company’s technology development and battery manufacturing efforts. The preferred candidate must have a strong background in chemistry, or material science or engineering, and must have hands-on experience working with Li-ion and next generation cell technology.
The primary duties include supporting and developing electrode formulation through cell testing and targeted experiments, designing new experiments, and establishing procedures on optimization of cathodes, anodes, electrolytes, and separator for Lithium-Ion batteries by extending battery capacity, power, life, safety and charge performance. This position will also lead a group of technicians on cell production and will require close collaboration with the engineers in addition to external partners and customers.
